Goddess Surya Deva.....
Om surya deva namaha – is the mantra dedicated to the sun god- surya. Also known as suryadev, he is one of the rare gods visible to worship, in hindu dharma . Surya deva, also known as suryaya, is the major solar deity in hindu religion. He is also universally refered to as sun. Surya, the sun is the symbol of Immense light and wisdom, hence, he is one of the most revered gods for hindus .also ravi and bhanu are two mainly commonly uttered names in sanskirt for the sun. However, Surya also has other different names in sanskirt.
The sun is the bestower of light and life to the totality of the cosmos; with his unblinking, all-seeing eye, he is the stern guarantor of justice; with the almost universal connection of light with enlightenment or illumination, the sun is the source of wisdom.

Only
when you call it thanks giving day in American style , we will be motivated to
go out , look at Glorious Sun God , bow to him and thank him for all that he
has blessed us with .
I
woke up a bit late. yes i am also one of those ignorant tamilian who doesn’t
care to wake up early on this auspicious day. As the morning sun streaked inside
our house, I sat in Varanda and turned the pages of the tamil newspaper
Dina Malar which according to my mother is the greatest informative newspaper
ever.At times i joke to her that if i want to make her believe something, i
have to make it appear on Dina Malar.
Regular activities of Pongal celebration
Abishekam to Lord Ganesha, Mahalakshmi, Shiva lingam with
Nagam, Saraswathi , Shirdi saibaba and Dattatreya. I sang the song i love most
“Aadithya hrudhayam ” Looking at Shirdi saibaba as i used to do guru pooja for
sai in surya lokha by chanting the names of sacred gurus.reciting the mantra Aaditya hrudhayam in praise of lord surya, the Pongal
was being cooked in open air infront of our house in 3 mud stoves and bronze
pots.
'Pongal' literally means overflowing and is named so because of the tradition of cooking the new rice in pots until they overflow, which is a symbol of abundance and prosperity.
That the most important. It is also called Surya Pongal because people worship Surya, the Sun God and his consorts.Women decorate the central courtyard of their homes with beautiful kolams (Visit my in-laws blog for kolam ideas), done with rice flour and bordered with red clay.Traditionally they cook pongal in clay pots on stoves made of stones and offer Sun God along with Freshly grown seasonal vegetables, sugar cane, legumes and pulses.
